Flood Damage

Flood Damage

Flood Damage …

Cleaning Flood-Damaged Homes or Vehicles

Caution! BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.  Does the outside inspection show the structure is safe?

* Check for structural damage to see if it is safe to enter the building.
* Watch for electrical shorts and live wires. Electrical safety is most important in floods. Make sure that electrical service is DISCONNECTED and CANNOT be turned on before entering any structure.
* Turn off any outside gas lines at the tank or meter, and let the building air out for several minutes to remove gas fumes.

Steps Towards Clean up:

* See that everyone is out of danger of new flood crests, falling buildings, fire or other hazards .
* If the Flood is considered major damage and you know you will need to use your homeowners insurance, then contact your insurance agent immediately. Either way you will next need to contact a company such as ours who can get right over to assess the damage as well as begin the restoration process…the longer you wait, the more damage done, the more cost you will incur.
* Take pictures of the damage before beginning clean up.
* Keep accurate records. List all clean-up and repair bills, flood-related living expenses and actual losses, such as furniture, appliances, clothing, etc
* Adjuster will assess damage to house. Owner should sign proof-of-loss statement. Additional damages can be added when found

Flood Category Levels:

Note, there are three levels of FLOODS: Category 1, 2, and 3

Category 1: ( water is clean, may be from washer machine etc) carpet can be saved.
Category 2: ( water is gray, may be from a not so clean source. the carpet may need to be discarded, (though not common, usually only 5% of the time…)
Category 3: ( water from inside the toilet with Urine and/or feces, sewer backed up etc. carpet must be properly disposed right away.

The minimum dry time for a normal flood is usually 2-3 days.

Our Process:

* Accurate readings must be taken of the moisture on carpet, walls and air ( inside and outside)
* Move all furniture in affected areas right away. (preventing furniture stains)
* Extract as much water from the surface of the carpet as possible.
* Remove Pad on affected area.
* Once pad is disposed, check level of flooded area, (depending on damage severity, it may be required to remove sub flooring if hardwood or plywood etc.)
* Ascertain how many blowers are required as well as the strategic positioning they demand to get the job done properly (i.e. proper blower positions to create the required VORTEX for better dehumidifying and drying results…in less time.).
* Ascertain how many dehumidifiers are required.
* Daily Monitoring of the equipment, such as rotating the blowers, daily readings of moisture levels and documenting data to track progress.
* Once everything is fully dry, proper solutions and treatments will be applied where applicable.
* New padding will be installed, carpet re-installed and re-stretched.
* Full carpet cleaning, stains removed and fully disinfected & deodorized.
